The story is about you and your Sweetie, the Likes, Comments and Shares mean so much more! I needed to say that, after all, I’m Marcus founder of the Two On An Island the Romance Company. It’s a contract obligation to promote #stronglove every chance I get.

Here are the top three ways to use pictures to tell a great love story on the social network of your choice:

GOOD — THE SELFIE

GOOD — THE SELFIE

If you add your honey to the picture then the perspective changes and you become the love struck, gushing narrator. See the TIPS section at the end of the article for best selfie photo techniques for couples.

Look, it’s a much better Selfie because she’s in it!

BETTER — REFER EVENTS OR LOCATION

BETTER — THE EVENT OR LOCATION SHOT

What can we infer from that photograph? Let’s see…”they visit Phuket, Thailand, the weather must be ideal, they dress so ‘tropical’. That must be a long flight, I need a long flight away from my normal, I’d love to take my honey to Thailand, I wonder how much it cost to fly to Thailand?”

[ From NYC to Phuket, Thailand typically cost around $1300 each in the summer. The trip takes about 24 hours, with at least one connection.]

Traveling is one of human’s great desires, when we see pictures of far off lands we subliminally imagine ourselves there. We put ourselves in the image and enjoying the moment too. You can expand the meaning of the story by giving the viewer more to see and to experience. Photos depicting events or identifiable locations are a good way to get someone to stop and enjoy your picture.

BEST — ACTION PICTURES

You’d be surprised, Beiber’s cellphone shot as he’s about to go on stage, or ASAP Rocky providing a sneak peak inside his private jet on the way to a PRADA Fashion Show in Milan, Italy, get more people to share, comment and like than any other pictures they take. Engagement is what you want. Situational snapshots capture the best view of the story in the moment.

BEST — LET THE PICTURES SPEAK

TIPS

Best Selfie tip — This is NOT VAIN, Figure out here and now, your ‘go to’ selfie pose and your best side.

Best Event or Location Photo tip — Get a landmark or event poster in the background. Also, use the caption well to further describe the moment.

Best Action Picture Tips — Take Multiple Shots. Since most social networks allow you to post multiple pictures in one post, it best to tell a story with a continues series of pictures. Consider taking close up shots (set phone on Portrait), paired with wider shots, this gives the viewer more aspects of the story to appreciate. You could use grides and template from a service such as Canva (www.canva.com, I pay the annual fee because it comes with a slew of good royalty free images). Use Canva to add more dimension to your images.

Bonus Tip — Figure out your favorite photo filter, whether it’s straight from your phone/ camera or on Instagram or Facebook, then use it all the time to produce uniformity across the stories you tell. I learned this from one of the best in the business; Peter McKinnon. See Peter’s Youtube presentation on Crushing Your Instagram Game here:

Peter McKinnon gives the best tips on Instagram but it applies to anywhere you want to tell a story.
